You might be surprised to learn that pinhole leaks are actually far more dangerous than outright cracks. Pinholes allow some fluid to slowly leak out. It may not be obvious at first but over a period of time the system loses efficiency and wear and tear on parts will be expedited.
To heighten this problem, pinholes in hydraulic hoses can cause serious injury if you are in close proximity whilst the hose is under pressure. This is called hydraulic injection injury and can be fatal. Always ensure the equipment you are working on has been relieved of pressure to avoid this risk. Use protective gloves to avoid injury while checking hoses.
We recommend daily checks, looking for any damage to the hose before use, be wary of leaks. A thorough hydraulic hose inspection is recommended every 100 - 200 hours. If your unsure, give us a call to discuss your concerns or to organise in inspection.
